Flashbulb Memories

Examine Crane 3.2 (p.91-92)

What is a flashbulb memory?

Can you think of anytime you may have created a flashbulb memory?  Any event that you would like to share? 

How accurate do you think this (flashbulb) memory is? 

Do you agree that more emotional events are better remembered than less emotional events?  Why?

Loftus on Memory

Select a study conducted by Elizabeth Loftus on her online site:  http://faculty.washington.edu/eloftus/  Read the study and state the:

1. Hypothesis
2. Independent Variable
3. Dependent Variable
4. Describe the procedure (Methods of research)
5. Discuss whether you think this study can be generalized to the larger society?  Is this study valid and reliable?

How human memory works? (DUE WEDNESDAY!)

Read TOK: is reasoning based on attitudes? (Crane, p.82)

Which of the statements best reflects your view of the how human memory works?  Why?

Discuss how reliable you would find accounts of restored memories if you believed in statement 1 or statement 2.  Why is this so? 

Have you learned anything in TOK yet that would support your position?

The Pygmalion Effect

After reading the Pygmalion effect (Rosenthal and Jacobson, 1968), on p. 18 of your Crane book, discuss whether you think the study was ethical.  Give reasons to support your answer.

Welcome to Mr. Higgins' IB Psychology 2010-11

Welcome back to the world of IB Psychology.  This year we will be using this blog to discuss readings, videos, and class discussions.  You can start your own blog to discuss group projects, problems or concerns with the Internal Assessment, review for the External Assessment, or to comment on the fascinating world of IB Psychology.  I hope you will enjoy this interactive adaptation to the traditional classroom environment.  Please be sure that you do not criticize anyone on this site.  Your opinions and beliefs should be safe here.
